Who is the woman that wears a Pnina Tornai dress? Who is the woman that walks down the aisle in a gown bespoke of her prodigious style and legendary confidence? Who is she, that owns her light and shines so bright she makes Aprhodite smile? The woman who wears a Pnina Tornai dress embodies a unique vision of glory: her glory. And, you can either bask in it with her (afterall, she isn’t an unkind woman), or step aside. For the first Kleinfeld designer to have an eponymous boutique opened within their Manhattan store after just two years with the celebrated bridal organization, Tornai believes her kind of woman for her dress is “Any woman that wants to look amazing.”

“We have everything in our collection; I have a dress for every bride. I have the clean look for the dress, to the crazy ball gown all beaded with details on the skirt, (I have something) for every bride,” she said.

The fact that Tornai has never taken formal lessons in fashion design fuels the legend of her dresses, which continue to enrobe women known for their ebullience, and sometimes for their hint of notoriety, like Nene Leaks for example. The dresses Tornai creates are inspired by her daily life and dreams, which then manifest into creations made with fabric imported directly from Europe, accented with Swarovski crystals and other precious stones. “I just live, and I’m connected to myself…for example I’m walking down the street and I see a beautiful ad, then the colours from that ad will inspire me. I look at everything, I listen to everything, I try to to be 100 % here: I live my life; I love my life. I just bring it (the inspiration) from the outside world into my world and that’s how every dress is born, ” she said. This collection harkens to a truth that life and people, including ourselves, change constantly.

The Pnina Tornai Fall 2015 collection takes the runways as butterflies, embodying the concept of transformation: that happens to come with a detachable skirt.

“People love the dresses, they love the fact that there are so many detachable skirts. You can appear for your ceremony in a beautiful ball gown look, and all you have to do is take it off of the hooks and just like a butterfly, you transform into something different and beautiful,” Tornai said.

Despite some labelling the collection as ‘vixenish’, Tornai designs for every bride with a vision in mind; the woman who wears a Pnina Tornai dress embodies her glory: she chooses to radiate what she loves most about herself and lavishes those features on everyone who crosses her path. For Tornai, her brides inspire her most.
“I love meeting my brides! Because if a brides says to me ‘You know what? I want this top, this skirt,’ it’s a new creation. Or ‘I have a destination wedding and I want something with colour,’ it’s a new inspiration. It’s just opening yourself to accept, and to give; that’s what I do with my bride,” she said. Pnina Tornai’s brides give her inspiration, and her three sisters give her support. “I call them the wind beneath my wings,” Tornai said thoughtfully.
And that is what makes every woman truly radiant.
